TIME FOR WALDEN TO MAKE BREAKTHROUGH |
|
Courtesy of Snooker Scene Blog
Time to stick my neck out…I predict Ricky Walden will make some sort of breakthrough during 2007.
Whether he reaches a semi-final, final or even wins a tournament I can’t say, but he’s clearly improving all the time, as evidenced by his superb performance in the Welsh Open qualifiers in Prestatyn yesterday.

We will be catching up with Ricky on Sunday to find out his thoughts on his forthcoming trip to Malta and his meeting with Former World Champion Shaun Murphy and also his views on The Welsh Open due to be played in Newport South Wales next month. Full report will follow next Monday. |

Margaret Lavin & Lee Gorton report from Pontins Prestatyn.
Flintshire Cueist and local hero Ricky Walden is through to the last 48 of the Welsh open which will be played at the Kingsway Centre in Newport starting on the 12th february 2007 after a 5 - 1 win over Stuart Pettman provisionally world ranked 39th. 24 year old Walden who recently was unlucky to lose 9 - 8 to the Rocket Ronnie O Sullivan in the UK Championship in York opened up the match with a fine 107 break to take the early initative and that was quickly followed by a stunning 139 total clearance, the highest of the qualifying stages so far. Pettman got in early in the 3rd frame but soon broke down and a clearly focused Walden then went 3 - 0 ahead thanks to another Century, this time a 110. A scrappy framed followed but the former World Snooker Young Player of distinction went into the interval 4 - 0 ahead. After the interval it was Pettman that struck 1st blood after a run of 70 to reduce the deficit to 1 - 4 but mid way through frame 6 a good saftey shot from Walden and a wild attempt at a long plant from Pettman, a cool frame winning 51 followed which ensured a last 48 place against Michael Holt in Newport next month. |

Ricky ready for next big match |

Story Courtesy Of The Evening Leader
RICKY WALDEN believes he has shown people he can compete with the best after losing out to Ronnie O’Sullivan in a thrilling encounter at the UK Championship.
The Bagillt-based potter was beaten 9-8 by the former world champion in a last-32 clash in the prestigious tournament which is being held at the Barbican Centre in York.
Having gone in locked at 4-4 following the first session, Walden soon found himself trailing 7-4 but the 24-year-old refused to give up and won four consecutive frames with breaks of 102, 93, 85 and 79 to turn the match on its head and lead O’Sullivan eight frames to seven.

RICKY WALDEN has a busy month ahead of him in his battle to jump up the world rankings.
Bagillt-based Walden, who is provisionally ranked 35 in the world after getting through to the last 32 of the prestigious UK Championship where he lost 9-8 against former world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in an epic contest, enters qualifying for two tournaments and takes part in another event which he has already reached the first round proper.
Walden takes part in qualifying in Prestayn for the Welsh Open and China Open, and then turns his attention to the Malta Open where he has been drawn against 2005 world champion, Shaun Murphy, in a last 32 first-round match.
And 24-year-old Walden is relishing the opportunity of facing another of the sport’s major names.
